Michael (Mike) Sosa
Development Officer of the Belize Tennis Association
Mike was born in Belize on the 13th March, 1972. He is married to Sophie Sosa and has two sons, Stefan and Jan. He hails from a family of football players and was first introduced to tennis at 17 years of age. He quickly developed a lifelong passion for tennis. He taught himself to play the game and has since participated in numerous national tennis tournaments. He has won the National Men’s Singles, National Mixed Doubles and National Men’s Doubles Titles including partnering with his son Stefan Sosa.
Mike’s greatest passion remains coaching. He is a Level 2 ITF Certified Tennis Trainer with 15 years of experience and currently serves as the Technical Director for the Belize Tennis Association. He has trained and assisted in the development of tennis athletes from all over the country including Corozal, Orange Walk, Belmopan, San Ignacio and Belize City. He has previously served as National Coach and Director of Tournaments. He is presently the President of The Belmopan Tennis Club.
Mike also teaches Physical Education at QSI International School of Belize. He manages a grassroots football program in Belmopan and has served as the Vice-Chairman of the Belmopan Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee. He currently serves as a National Sports Council board member. Although he teaches students of all ages, Mike has a particular passion for seeing advancements across all sports, particularly in the development of grassroots age-level children in Belize. He views this as a vital pathway to elevating sports to a standard of high performance in Belize.
