The Belize Tennis Association (BTA) is the nationally recognized body responsible for overseeing the development of tennis in Belize. Tennis has been played here since the early 1900s.

about-us

In 1991, Belize via the Belize Tennis Association became a member of the International Tennis Federation, which is the internationally recognized body for the development of tennis throughout the world.

However, it was not until 2011 that the BTA gained legal status by registering with the Belize Companies Registry and became incorporated as a non-profit association.

The BTA’s Executive Council is made up of seven (7) volunteers who love the sport and are committed to contributing to the association.

The association relies heavily on the Belize Olympic Association (BOA), the International Tennis Federation (ITF), and corporate and individual sponsors for financial contributions to assist with programs and events.

Please consider joining the BTA as a player, a volunteer to assist with events, or as a sponsor. We are enthusiastic about introducing more people to this wonderful sport and are trying to accomplish this by promoting and offering tennis in primary schools.

Additionally, we offer a Junior Tennis Initiative program that provides daily training under the direction of a Cuban Coach whose work here is made possible by grants from the ITF and the BOA.

Why Play Tennis?

Playing tennis gets you moving, and moving is good for the body and the mind. One of the great things about tennis is that it’s a sport that can be played at nearly any age and at any skill level.

Whether you play competitively, for your health or just for fun, tennis has great benefits. Here are several reasons why picking up a racquet and hitting the court can have positive impacts on children of all ages and adults:

Excellent Health Benefits

People who participate in tennis three hours per week (at moderately vigorous intensity) can improve and extend their life through exercise, according to physician Ralph Paffenbarger of Harvard University School of Public Health.

Improves The Mind

Tennis players scored higher in vigor, optimism and self-esteem while scoring lower in depression, anger, confusion, anxiety and tension than other athletes and non-athletes.

Helps You Lose Weight

Tennis burns more calories than aerobics or cycling, according to studies in caloric expenditures. It also burns fat, improves your cardiovascular fitness and, helps you maintain high energy levels.

Teaches Life Management

Tennis allows you to manage mistakes by teaching you to play within your abilities, and understanding that managing and minimizing mistakes in tennis and life is important. It also helps you manage adversity by learning to adjust to the elements.

Discipline and Hard Work

Tennis helps children develop a good work ethic because improvement through lessons or practice reinforces the value of hard work. It develops discipline since you learn to work on your skills in practice and control the pace of play in competition.

Superior Athleticism

Tennis provides all kinds of athletic movements that can be used to be successful in any sport. Through a wide array of different movements on the court, tennis has been proven to improve your acceleration, reaction time, speed, etc.
