Dr. Atanascio Cob
1st Vice President of the Belize Tennis Association
Atanascio was born on the 2nd of May 1959, in the village of San Pedro, Corozal District. He is a medical doctor by profession and specializes in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. Dr Cob previously served in the Government Hospitals but now is dedicated to private practice at Belize Healthcare Partners and Belize Medical Associates.
His interest in tennis goes way back as a young student. He followed a few tennis matches of the legendary Borg, McEnroe and others of that era. It was not until he returned home as a specialist and at the age of 40 that he started playing tennis at the Pickwick Club, inspired by Belizean stars, like Billy Musa Sr, Sonny Meighan, Billy Musa Jr, and others. Mike Sosa’s coaching contributed to his meekly improvements but his immense burning desire to keep learning was shown as he participated in tournaments.
He owes his enthusiastic participation in tennis to Billy Musa Sr, who embraced him in the group, even though he was just a beginner. He has been in the Tennis Association for several years and his vision is to see tennis acquire a national fervour like football and basketball. The other sport he loves is cycling.
